For the past couple of months, some of you may have noticed the dwindling amount of posts in my blog. It's a combination of a lot of things which all fall under the category of "life". I still want to continue blogging but like a phoenix rising from the ashes, I will do so with a new blog. I think that is the only way to go if I want to start fresh. There is so much going on in my life that trying to pigeon hole all my experiences and thoughts in a vintage-inspired blog has become difficult, if not limiting. Old School Cool has been a part of my life and I want to thank all my readers and followers for sharing their valuable time with me and my humble blog. I will always cherish this blog for it has led me to other interesting bloggers. Reading all your comments have always been a highlight of my simple everyday life and I do hope that you will continue to follow me in my journey. The journey does not end here. The new one is just about to begin so please stay tuned...

We are most definitely in a preppy mood today. Well, when I layer up, I almost always tend to lean on the preppy side. Sweaters, blazers, that sort of thing. I just recently purchased the navy blue driving cap from J.Crew and it matched perfectly with my Ann Taylor blazer so I pretty much built my outfit around those 2 items. I wanted to break the monotony that was going on below in the leg/shoes area by wearing probably a pair of gray socks but lo and behold, with the gazillion pairs of socks jammed in my sock drawer, none of them were the perfect shade. And so, this was my outfit for today. (And yes, I sincerely apologize for the corniness of the title of this post) Now, off to watch some more episodes of Dexter Season 3...

Ok. I'm totally and absolutely depressed. Well, "depressed" may not be the word. Maybe "irritated" and slightly "miserable" would be better words to describe how I feel. I know that the Lanvin collection came out today and unfortunately, the H&M stores in my lovely state of Michigan will not be carrying the said collection. They definitely had a couple of cute dresses in that collection and I was totally and absolutely bummed I will not have a chance to see or even touch them. To my desperation, I even called out of state stores to see if I will be able to purchase them via the phone but alas, my fate is utter $#!+ as they cannot even sell me the $3.95 tote bags over the phone. Why? In this day and age... Why doesn't H&M have an online store?!?!?!?! Why, oh, why?!?!?!?! I've accepted the fact that the only Lanvin item I will probably get from this collection would be the tote bags. But that will only be possible with YOUR help. If any of my kind readers would be willing to snag me a couple of their tote bags, I would greatly, deeply, sincerely appreciate it with all my heart. I will pay tag price + shipping. Anyone willing to help a sister out?

T is for Tucker and T-Strap.

I have been living under a rock for the past months. If I did not visit the Target website, I would have completely missed my opportunity to snag some Tucker items. I ordered the outfits below online and was very pleased with the lightness and silkiness of the fabric. I have to say that the first outfit has got to be my favorite. Polkadots and a tweedy wool skirt? Absolutely cute! I had to order the skirts in different sizes though because bottoms are weird like that. I usually wear a 2/4 but for this herringbone wool skirt, I actually ended up sticking with the size 9. Must be water retention or the poundage I've gained the past months. I don't know. Size is nothing but a number. As much as the orange ruffled dress looks pretty, it does not compliment my skin tone and so it will be put up on sale on my eBay page for those of you who may be interested.

On other online-shopping related news, I ordered a couple of new shoes from Spring.com, Aldo's sister company. Free shipping and additional 30% off clearance? You've had me at hello. Hehehe! Below are the photos of the lovelies I've ordered. I was really giddy with excitement to see that the t-strap heels were on sale. The design is very classy. None of those frilly stuff. I also got the gray wedge bootie. They have yet to arrive but I hope they work out.

Halloween 2010

The mister and I spent Halloween with his family. I got my in-laws' dogs some Halloween t-shirts and devil horns for the special ocassion. They look so cute! They walked around the house wearing their outfits. So adorable!

I wasn't going to dress up but at the very last second, I decided to go as a Gothic Victorian Doll. I've had this vintage velvet dress lying around and since I cannot really wear it on a "normal" day, I figured that Halloween would be a good excuse to finally wear it out. I wanted to add more elements to my attire to really give it that Gothic Victorian Doll vibe (think exagerated eyelashes, super rosy cheeks, maybe even pale make-up?) but the mister thought it would be best to keep it minimal. We were, after all, still dropping by Joann's and Old Navy on the way to his parents' house.

Halloween was a blast. We spent the evening standing on his parents' porch, handing out candy. It was really nice seeing all those kids in costume. My favorite was a chicken costume. We had a great time although we were freezing! I wore leggings underneathe my tights and still I was cold! When my toes were starting to get numb, I decided to go in the house and watch through the windows. The little doggies wanted to see what was going on too so they took turns sitting on my lap. I also got to take home some candy which is always awesome! I hope everyone had a great Halloween, though this post is a tad late.

I just posted a look in my Lookbook page for a Halloween Costume Contest they are having. If you guys have the time, please do drop on by and give me a HYPE. I did the gunshot wound prosthetic make-up myself. I'm not the type to *toot* my own horn but I spent the whole day practically telling people that, no, they cannot poke their finger through the "hole" in my forehead. Needless to say, they were creeped out and thought it was real! Personally, I am tired of seeing girls scantily dressed on Halloween. Sexy nurse, sexy pirate, sexy firewoman, sexy anything! GAH! I haven't uploaded any outfit posts in a long time because everytime I meant to take a photo, my camera is either a) lost b) doesn't have battery or c) doesn't have the memory card in. All those missed opportunities! *shakes fists* This outfit post isn't really that special but since I was visiting a friend who is always willing to take photos of me, I had some taken. This outfit would be my "everyday" look. (Yes, as much as I would like to wear flowy dresses, full skirts and look "vintage" everyday, I cannot.) With what I do, I gots to be comfortables, you know?

I just have to say I LOVE LOVE LOT this Merona jersery blazer from Target! I've been wanting a jersey blazer but was only lucky to have a black one. Finally, I have a light gray (as pictured) and a dark heathered gray is on its way too! (Got it from the website) I usually wait for items to go on clearance but these blazers are too perfect to risk it. They are exactly what I wanted. Blazers are so effortlessly chic. It levels up any outfit just like that! Plus, it's so preppy, I love it! (Sometimes, I dress "too" preppy, that some people think I'm actually still in school! Being told that my style is preppy is a compliment to me)

In other Target website news, I am so relieved that the Liberty of London home items are finally on clearance on the website. I bought some bed stuff in the super cute Sixty print. I would buy them for our current bed but something tells me that Mr. Old School will not be too pleased lying down on a bed of lovely floral pastelness.

All Clogged Up

I recently bought 2 pairs of t-strap clogs at the Forever 21 website. They are a steal at $24.80 a pair so I got one of each color. (Yes, I'm a shoe addict like that) I don't have tons of money to afford Swedish Hasbeens so this seems like a good and affordable alternative. I'm not really a clog person either but you know what they say, you'll never know until you try, right?

The lovelies arrived today and I was really surprised at how comfortable they are! After close inspection, I'm really impressed at how cute they look. I mean, the heels aren't really wood but that's perfectly fine with me. I just like my shoes to have simple classic lines, you know? Nothing too frilly or anything of that sort. So these are really perfect! They still have sizes and colors available in the website so go check it out!

Besides packages, my cute little nephew always makes me happy. Since Auntie Awesome (who currently still doesn't feel so awesome. Bah!) lives so far away from the cuteness that is little Mattie, she has to make do with photos and videos. Thank goodness for technological advancements! For without such revolutionary gadgets, I will not be able to enjoy such a cute and chubby sight! Just look at all those little piggies! (And yes, I meant his sausage-like fingers and toes. Hehe!)

I also want to thank the lovely people who have left comments and well wishes in my last post. I do not intend to be such a downer but sometimes, life really gets to you, you know? Anyway, thank you very much! The world can definitely use more people like you guys. Spread the love! Bless your hearts.

Since I enjoyed the package I received from Stephanie during the recently concluded Package Exchange Project (and since I'm such a greedy little hamster. Ha!), I just want to throw out an open invitation to anybody out there who would be interested in exchanging packages with me. Just post a comment and leave your email. Just as I love receiving packages, I also enjoy sending them so drop me a note. I'm not sure as to how many, if any, would reply but I won't be able to exchange packages with everybody (that's assuming I get a TON of replies which I probably won't since my blog is so teeny tiny). I haven't been posting much and I apologize. I haven't been feeling well and I'm also feeling mildly depressed. Such is life, right? I do want to thank the lovely people who have left comments while my blog was on an unplanned hiatus. It warms my little heart to see that people actually do visit and read my humble blog. Thank you so much!

I'm one of those people who can't function properly when I'm feeling rather blue. But time waits for no one and is sadly wasting away so I decided to do something productive. I ended up polishing a silver candelabra I recently thrifted. Nothing like repetitive, brainless movements to keep your mind off of things. Wipe on. Wipe off. Then I heard a knock on the door! It was Mr. Fedex Man bearing a huge package for me!

It was my package from the Package Exchange Project from my lovely partner, Stephanie of Church Clothes! It was hard restraining myself from tearing off the box into pieces while I took pictures. It was so exciting and so much fun! It was definitely a lot better than repetitive, brainless movements! Receving a package is like receiving happiness in a box! For a while, my sickness and my blues went away.

Stephanie did an awesome job picking out items for the exchange. Almost everything was thrifted and definitely old school! I love it! She sent me an awesome red vintage purse, a cute leather belt, a precious little Trifari owl pin, stickie notes, a heart ice-tray and dog tail wall hook from Ikea, and a mini bubble gum dispenser from the 80s. I was in absolute heaven! I immediately scrambled for coins to get some of the Skittles that were inside the bubble gum dispenser. I love Skittles. I have fond childhood memories of Skittles.

Thank you so much for your package, Stephanie! Your thoughtfulness and creativity is greatly appreciated. Plus, the timing of your package is just perfect. Nothing like a good package to lift you up when you're down. Thank you so much!

Now, I'm very excited to see what everyone else got. Please feel free to share some of your photos so that we can post it in the blog for all to see. This was definitely a good idea and I'm certainly going to host another one soon. I will keep you all posted!

Good to know nothing's changed. I'm still not over JGL. Hurrah! The hormonal thing will pass soon so we'll see if this crush thing will go with it. You know how hormones are, right? But in the mean time, I'm enjoying the view by watching the video below. I know you're saying something really interesting, Joe. But right now, I just want to look at you. Thank you so much to the lovely Practical Whimsy for hooking me up. Thank you too to everyone who left comments! Gah! Next thing you know, I'll be Googling for JGL photos. Not that it's a bad thing. My computer can use some digital love every now and then.

I promise not to get TOO crazy with the whole JGL thing. It will pass. At least I think it will. I went through a Bear Grylls phase too but it quickly ended when I saw him eat a live lizard and a skinned frog. Bear, why must you do the grossest things? Why don't you just park your cuteness beside me and watch someone else do the gross stuff? Haha! Speaking of Bear, doesn't he kinda look like Christian Bale? He cleans up nicely too! Oh my gah! Boys, boys, boys all over my posts! I'm becoming boy-crazy!!! I blame the hormones! Darn you, hormones!!! *shakes fists*

In non-JGL/Bear mushiness, I got a boat load of stuff yesterday and will be sorting through them for a shop update. I'm also finishing up some repairs on a couple of dresses I got. They were too pretty to pass up! I really need to get my act together. I can't think straight and I haven't updated the shop in ages! I already pulled out some dandy sweaters so maybe I'll post those first. Ok? Let's go!

I woke up today having the strangest, full-on crush on Joseph Gordon Levitt. I already thought he was cute back in the day when he was still in 3rd Rock from the Sun and even cuter in 500 Days of Summer but this is just insane! He was never my full-on crush until this morning! I literally work up feeling like a crazed fangirl! Talk about time space warp! I don't mind though because he is cute. Ha! He kind of reminds me of the late Heath Ledger. I don't know what it is. It might be the hormones or maybe I've completely lost my mind but now, I'm REALLY crushing on JGL. As if I needed more reason to watch Inception, right? Joseph Gordon Levitt, why must you be so disarmingly cute? Darn you! Now, I can't sleep.

It's back to school so it's time to say "hello" to plaids once again! I have to say, I just love Lauren's plaid bomber jacket in the fourth photo. It's so awesomely preppy-chic! The plaid shorts are cute too but I don't think I can pull it off without looking like an actual student.

Anyway, I haven't posted outfits lately because 1. I keep on forgetting my camera and 2. The sun doesn't want to cooperate when I'm ready to shoot. Haha! I'm quite busy spending a lot of time indoors, getting re-acquainted with my lovely sewing machine. It's really about time I finish my projects.

I scored this super cute oilcloth overnight bag a while back. It reminded me so much of Cath Kidston's bags that I just had to get it. (The price was 75% cheaper too!) What's really cute is that the design, if you look closely, looks like it was drawn with a felt marker. Isn't that neat? I just love it!

Speaking of Cath Kidston's awesome oilcloth bags, it absolutely breaks my obsessed little heart that I have yet to own one. Boohoo! I've been trying to snag one of her saddle bags on eBay for the longest time and I just can't seem to get lucky! After splurging on my J.Crew brogues, I absolutely cannot justify buying a $50++ oilcloth saddle bag no matter how cute they are. I know that when the time is right, it will happen. For now, I have my cute oilcloth overnight bag to tide me over.

Artspiration: Paul Nosa

Paul Nosa (or more popularly known as P.Nosa) is an artist from Tucson, AZ. Besides drawing, painting, photography, and making music, he also does free-motion embroidery, which is making art with a sewing machine. Sounds easy? NOT. Awesome? Absolutely!

I was first acquainted with P.Nosa when I saw photos of the Renegade Craft Fair. His booth was unlike any other. He pedals his bike to power his portable sewing machine which he uses to create awesome embroidered art on patches of cloth. I own a sewing machine and I also do a little sewing myself but what he does is just spectacular, not to mention difficult and very creative! It's almost like Etch A Sketch using a sewing machine instead. Having said just that, I guess his booth can also be considered an art installation. The artist at work.

When I saw photos (or shall I say "patches"?) of his works, I was completely in awe. Some were as "simple" as a pair of headphones while some were more complex as something as to which I could only describe as a "whimsical scene in someone's imagination". How ever which way you put it, there's no denying that P.Nosa's work is definitely special. Out of the box and out of this world, special!

Feed your imagination and visit his website. It's jampacked with art and music. Take a look around, make a donation, or even commission a patch of art! And I admit, I'll never look at my sewing machine the same way ever again.

Outfit Post: Girls Who Wear Boy Clothes

I recently got my package from Annie of Timely Vintage so I was totally stoked! I just had to use my new purse stat! Here's a little back story... I joined a giveaway and as a prize, I received a $25 gift certificate to spend on anything in Annie's awesome Etsy store. She has tons of cool dresses but I ended up using my gift certificate on this dandy Dooney purse! You can never go wrong with a black purse!

The weather yesterday was lovely. Whoopee! The Mister and I had dinner with the in-laws out in the east side and below was what I wore. It was cool since I was able to use my new purse! I think it went well with my outfit. Dinner was great and the whole family walked around Partridge Creek Mall to burn off some calories and to check out the very kid-friendly water fountain they had. It was so fun watching the kids play, trying to avoid getting spurted by the water.

After we parted ways, the kind and patient Mister took me to a local thrift store for some shopping. I scored a really cute deadstock Keds sandals and white woven huaraches. I also got 2 vintage skirts and a really dandy blouse. I'm still mustering the courage to wear said dandy blouse because the Mister is right, it "screams" old fashioned vintage. We'll see...

Top Bun

After reading J.Crew's July Catalog for the nth time, I decided to play around with my hair. I wanted to emulate Behati Prinsloo's messy top bun. After 3 minutes of combing and trying to get my super unruly hair into a high ponytail, I spent about 2 minutes twisting and pinning the bun in place. Pardon the mug, but except for that chunk of hair that wants to do its own thing, I think my newbie efforts turned out somewhat decent. Those hair screw thingies definitely made it a lot easier! I think some hair spray will help too.

I'm getting bored with my hair and was contemplating on getting bangs again. I like it when I have bangs and the boy is kind of fond of them too. They make me feel young and look young. The only drawback is that bangs block my line of sight. Well, that and it's akward when you're growing it out. I think I will play with top buns some more and then decide if I should still get a haircut. Besides, I need to pay my credit card bill first! I hope everyone's weekend is coming along swimmingly!

Time To Bring Out The Cozy!

The weather today was absolutely wonderful! We had tons of sun but the air was no longer heavy with humidity. (Gah! I hope I just didn't jinx it!) I, of course, decided to spend it indoors, plopped down on the sofa by the porch. There was a hint of chill in the breeze, reminding me that it will be Fall soon. Ah! How I love Fall! Days might be getting shorter but at least you still get sun and a slightly colder weather. I think Fall has all the good aspects of all the seasons combined which makes it the best season! Plus, you get to dress in layers too! Ladies and gents, it's time to bring out the cozy!

I'm a proud owner of 2 DKNY Cozies. It's the most versatile piece ever and it's absolutely great for Fall. I also own 3 Soft & Sexy Sweater Wraps by Victoria's Secret, which is basically a more affordable version. I absolutely LOVE wearing my Soft & Sexy Sweater Wrap in Sugar Baby with grey sweatpants and a white tank whenever I travel. It totally glams up the sweatpants look. Plus, it's super comfy too! If you don't own one yet, it's really a good investment! Unleash the drape goddess in you!

Lately, I find myself wearing clothes which would be good for hiking. I'm nowhere near a mountain or a rainforest. I guess I just like feeling "rugged" and "outdoors-y" (Which would be the closest thing I could get since I'm such a wimp and I actually spend most of my time indoors!) It might not be the most fashionable and trendy outfit but hey! It's very comfy and I feel like it! Sometimes, that's all that matters. Btw, I dislike my camera. >.<

PEP: Package Exchange Project

It's quite safe to say that I enjoy old school snail mail but with all the technological advancements and conveniences, snail mail is "slowly" dying (No pun intended!). Having said just that, my mailbox has been deprived of a good package lately. I'm sure other mailboxes out there are feeling the same way. My mailbox's diet has mostly been weekly flyers and credit card offers (Except for that lovely package I recently received from Brianna!). We all know that junk is bad for any diet so let's help each other out by signing-up in...

I just want to start a small group of people who are interested in exchanging packages and feeding mailboxes with awesome random goodies. Nothing big or fancy. Just something fun for everyone! Here are the details:

Interested participants can sign-up below. Sign-up is open until August 15, 2010. Should you change your mind, please send me a note or leave a comment before the sign-up period ends.
After the sign-up period, everyone will be randomly matched up with their P.E.P. partner. You will receive information about your P.E.P. partner on August 16, 2010. To keep things fair, please note that once you've been matched, you are "committed" to send out a package. No one wants an empty mailbox!
The theme for this package exchange is... Old School Cool! This is definitely open to interpretation! You can send out actual vintage stuff or vintage-inspired items. You can also send out awesome things that remind you of your childhood. Retro candies, accessories, clothing, cartoon characters, paper ephemera, handmade crafts, kitschy knick-knacks... Anything! As long as it's old school cool!
Packages should have at least 5 different items. Total dollar amount doesn't matter but please, as a courtesy to your partner, send things you yourself would want to receive!
Packages should be sent out no later than August 31, 2010.
Once you have received your package, take tons of photos to share with the rest of the group. You can email me your photos or links and they will be posted here. (This is optional but I think it would be fun to see what everyone got)
Since this is the first Package Exchange Project I've organized, I want to do a test run first which means that this will be open to U.S. residents only (At least, for now!).

Color Me Happy

I recently joined a package exchange over at "Adventures In Love And Happiness" called "Color Me Happy". It's a package exchange all about your favorite color. Since I'm too excitable to actually stop and read the instructions, I ended up sending my package partner a hodge podge of random things that I liked which, of course, exceeded the 3 item limit. But hey! The more, the merrier, right?

My package partner is Briana of Priester's Peace and I received her package late last week! Boy, was I excited! When I opened up the box, cuteness spilled over! I love love love that she sent me Hello Kitty stickers! The turqouise earrings are super lovely too! (I'm planning an outfit to wear around it soon. Hehehe!) But my absolute favorite? The peachy-pink bow headband! You nailed it, Briana! Thank you sooo much! I hope you like the stuff I sent you!

I participated in another package exchange and I'm very excited to see what I will get. Getting packages in the mail is so awesome! It's like Christmas on a random day. Having said that, I think I'll organize my own package exchange soon. Anyone interested? :)

The Beautiful Ones

I was clicking through my dandy 4th Gen iPod when I accidentally clicked on a Suede song and just like that, memories of years passed come crashing in. Suede is one of the 4 bands that brought out the obsessive, full on "posters-on-the-wall, magazine-clipping, squeal-like-you-mean-it" fangirl in me. [What were the other 3 bands, you ask? The other two being New Kids On The Block (Admit it! You were a fan too!), Alice In Chains and Interpol. More on Interpol later!]

So, anyway, after listening to a couple of songs, I knew I had to get online to see what the band is up to and maybe take a peak at some photos while I was at it. They ARE the beautiful ones, after all and I wondered if they have aged gracefully. (Hehehe!)

Suede was the soundtrack of my teens. I molested their songs and devoured their videos like a rabid little hamster. Below, you can find 2 of my favorite videos. I guess, in a way, they paved the way to my decade long Web Design and Graphic Arts career, having made my first fansite during the good old Geocities/Angelfire days.

I just have to say, Neil Codling was so pretty during those years. His perfectly disheveled hair and careless handsome looks would make Dorian Gray envious. His absolute gorgeousness is captured at its epitomy, in my humble opinion, in the "Lazy" video. And how cute is Richard Oakes in that video? I have forgotten that awesome jumping scene. Classic. Ah! Good times...

Mr. Old School and I went to the mall yesterday to return a dress that I bought. The dress didn't work out because it was too big. After returning the dress, we decided to go around window shopping. I was thisclose to buying stuff but I had to remind myself of my credit card bill. Plus, Mr. Old School was there to keep me in check.

I really wanted to get this canvas tote at Forever 21. It was a simple canvas tote with a printed bow design. I'm a reusable tote bag addict and I absolutely adore bows so resisting to buy the tote was VERY difficult. Besides, the voice of reason (a.k.a. Mr. Old School) kept on reminding me of the tons of bags I have at home that I have yet to use. So, bye-bye cute canvas bow tote!

Mr. Old School had to go his thing at the mall and I was left by my lonesome to continue window shopping. Being the J.Crew fan that I am, I had to drop by J.Crew. It's always lovely and inspiring going to their stores. I wanted to check out their other brogues but I was informed that they actually don't carry the brogues in the store. Ah! Too bad! It would have been awesome to try them out.

As I was about to leave, I caught a glimpse of this cute canvas tote bag with a sketch of a girl sitting on top of a pile of suitcases. The design is so cute, I knew I had to get it! It was a lot bigger and wider than the Forever 21 canvas bow tote too! I can definitely stash a lot of stuff in it! And what's that? No voice of reason to stop me! Muwahahaha!

My friend got married last Saturday in a lovely garden wedding in Ann Arbor. Everything was absolutely perfect! Even the weather was nice! Not a single gray cloud in sight! I was a Bride's Maid and we wore these lovely shift dresses from H&M. With a little creativity and inspiration (read: matching sash and hairclips), we transformed them into unconventional yet cute Bride's Maid dresses. Very J.Crew-ish. What's really cool about this concept is that we can actually wear the dresses after the wedding, giving it more life and versatility, not to mention getting more bang for your buck! Anyway, as promised, here are some photos from that lovely day...

My J.Crew Camden brogues have arrived! Welcome home, lovelies! They no longer have the blush pink in women's so I had to resort to getting the girl's version. The Girls' Camden leather brogues in Sea Shore Beige looks a lot like the blush pink I wanted so I went for it! It's times like this that I'm glad I have small feet! This is what I wore today. After Monday's outfit post which was so girly, I decided to give menswear a try. Nothing like a little contrast, right? Well, sort of. I've been browsing through my J.Crew catalogs and was inspired by one of their photos. I'm pretty sure the model was not sporting a muffin top but hey! I wouldn't give up my cookies and candies for anything in the world! I also bought this faux leather watch in Walmart so I figured I definitely have to wear something black or meanswear-ish to wear it. I've been wanting a simple black leather strap watch so this was an awesome find. It's not dainty (read: tiny and frilly) like most women's watches and I love how simple it is. The design was classic and the shape was just right. Plus, it was just $10. It was perfect.

We were in downtown Ann Arbor last Friday for the wedding rehearsal. They were having their Street Art Fair and there were tons of artists and vendors. After the rehearsal dinner, I begged my partner in crime to poke our heads in the local Urban Outfitters to check out their sale. It was raining and parking was a hassle but nothing can ever stop me from getting a good bargain! Since we were still going to attend another party after the rehearsal dinner, we had limited time to look around. Given the time limit, I scored big time! I got me some pleated shorts and a lovely bow skirt. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the bow skirt! Hurray for sales!

I had a rather busy day today and with just a couple days left before my friend's wedding this weekend, things are getting a little too hectic. Since it's going to be a garden wedding, I really hope with all my heart that the weather cooperates!

In times like these, there's nothing more comforting than stuffing your face with some good old candy suckers. These ring pops are actually left overs from the loot bag I prepared for my friend's Bachelorette Party. Every girl wants bling and there's definitely nothing cooler than a ginormous bling you can eat! They come in different colors and flavors too! I must admit, it took me a couple of minutes admiring the ginormous candy bling on my finger before I started eating it. It's almost like adult pacifiers.

Old School Music Videos? Ok Go!

Music drives me just as art and creativity does. I stumbled upon this super freakin' awesome video of Ok Go in my brother's page. I've always liked Ok Go but I've been out of touch, music-wise, for quite some time now. Some of you lovelies might be more familiar with their more popular video for their song "Here It Goes Again". You know, the funny dance routine that involved treadmills? Yes, that one!

Their music videos really kick major S. I'm quite surprised that there are still bands out there that actually exert effort in making their music videos special. Actually, I'm surprised that bands still make music videos period especially since so-called "music channels" are more interested in showing "reality" shows than music videos. Oh well. Bride's Maid

My friend is getting married next week. Being the dutiful bride's maid, I'm coordinating her Bachelorette Party, which is going to be this Saturday. Whoopeedoo! It should be fun but right now, I'm just overwhelmed with all the preparations. I wish I could just skip all this and go straight to the fun parts! Hehehe!

I spent the whole evening making souvenirs. It gave me a chance to whip out my dandy, hardcore button maker (Thank you, my lovely family, for such an awesome gift!) But what was supposed to be easy, turned out to be a major production number. Nothing wanted to cooperate this evening. The tape, the magnets, the cutter... Absolutely nothing! I'm just so thankful that Mr. Old School was kind enough to lend a hand. I really couldn't have done it without him.

I really feel neglectful. I've been meaning to update the shop for the looongest time! I already have the photos ready. I just can't seem to pin down a time to get it all done. Sometimes, I wish I was some sort of Gremlin. Well, a useful, tame and neat Gremlin. Just add water and I'd multiply like crazy! But of course, you have to feed me first! That would be awesome! Then I'd get more things done! Come to think of it, I think I'll just take helpful little elves or gnomes. Too much of me running around will definitely drive Mr. Old School crazy and I don't want that. I already drive him crazy myself! Hehehe!

Yulia Brodskaya is a Russian born artist who is well known for her "papergraphic" illustrations. She transforms ribbons of paper into stunning masterpieces that are simply amazing! Her works are so expertly crafted that it opens up a new dimension to paper quilling. You will never look at twirled paper the same way again.

After I saw Yulia's works, there was no denying that I immediately felt inspired. I've dabbled with paper quilling a few years back but I never really knew that there's so much more you can do with it than just your usual twirled animals and flowers. Yulia's works definitely opened my eyes to new possibilities one can make with this old craft. She illustrated with twirled paper! Her creativity definitely gave it new life. To me, this is such a classic old school meets new school moment. Don't you just love it when things just get better?

Love at first bike

Ever since I saw that Liberty of London Limited Edition bike at the Target website, I fell in love. I forget how much the first editions were but I reckon they were about $200 or so. But it was pretty! I imagined myself riding the lovely floral cruiser around the neighborhood, wearing lovely floral dresses. But that was just a dream. I still have a mountain bike gathering dust in our living room. If only Liberty of London made floral mountain bikes! Besides, next thing I knew, they sold out! I couldn't even find them in the stores! Bah!

Anyway, as I was surfing through Target's website, I realized they came out with a second edition of those lovely bikes. I was kind of hoping that the price will also go down but it didn't. I guess I was just not meant to have that bike. I mean, I still have a mountain bike that I rarely use so why should I get another one just because it's pretty? Exactly. Because it's pretty. :)

I found a really cheaper alternative though. I was really excited to see that Huffy made His and Hers Deluxe cruiser bikes for only $100 each! They're not really floral but I have to say, I like the neutral color! And they both come with baskets and rear racks too! *insert heavenly sounds here, harps, angels and all!* Now, if I can only get the Mister to agree to get these matching bikes...

Carrie of Read My Life As Carrie has tagged me in the "5 Product Face" challenge. Basically, it's doing your make-up using only 5 products. This should be easy since I rarely put any make-up on. (I don't enjoy having to worry about getting racoon eyes or foundation on my clothes) But of course, for special ocassions, the headmistress has to glam it up a bit. But for this challenge, let's me share the products I use everyday.

I start off with sweeping my face with Neutrogena Pore Refining Toner.
I apply Neutrogena Healthy Skin Face Lotion with SPF 15.
I dot some gel blush on my cheeks. I use Revlon's Pinch Me in Cheeky Cherry.
I add some color to my lips using Covergirl's Outlast Lipstain in Teasing Blush.
Lastly, I put on some Cherry Chapstick.

The weather this weekend was a bit moody. The sun would be beating down on you one second and then you'd be drenched in rain the next. If there was anything about the weather this weekend that was certain, it was the mugginess and that, for me, meant frizzy, banshee hair.

Mr. Old School wanted to get a massage so we went to the mall in the afternoon. I ended up wearing my quirky shoe skirt. I thought it was apt since I have been talking so much about shoes this week. At the mall, I indulged myself with a $10 dress from Sears while I was waiting for the Mister. I did not dare roam far for fear of getting within 10 feet of Forever 21 or H&M which would mean major damage, whether I liked it or not.

After our short stay at the mall, we went to Borders to check out some books. Hanging out at Borders is always fun. Besides being surrounded by awesome books, they also have cute stuff from Paperchase and I absolutely LOVE Paperchase! Their knick knacks are so cute and fun!

Since I didn't feel like cooking (turning on the stove with this weather is NOT an option), the Mister and I decided to get some Mexican take-out. While the Mister was waiting for our order to be packaged up, I got to meet 2 lovable Samoyeds outside the restaurant. Their names are Chilli and Charlie and they are both so sweet and adorable! The owner was kind enough to let me pet them and I ended up giving both dogs big hugs. If I had a big enough purse, those dogs would definitely be going home with me. Such sweethearts!

I realized that I have been posting A LOT about shoes lately that I feel that my blog is slowly becoming a shoe porn site. Not that it's bad or anything but I feel like I have neglected my shop updates, outfit posts, and other randomness. The shoe bug bit me and it bit me hard!

Yes, you guessed it! Another shoe post...

Remember those lovely J.Crew Camden brogues in blush pink that we will NEVER EVER have not only because it's a whopping $250 but because the blush pink color is also sold out? Well, look what I found at the Payless website...

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised to see an affordable Alice + Olivia alternative! I'm a HUGE J.Crew fan but since I don't have tons of cash just lying around (How I wish I did though!), I have to be smart! And Payless was definitely the way to go!

I ordered the shoes a couple of weeks ago and of course, I had the shoes delivered to the nearest location so that I can save on shipping (Remember, $6 saved on shipping is $6 that will be going to a new pair of shoes!) And today was the day. I went to the mall to pick up the pink loveliness that was waiting to go home.

The Alice + Olivia Payless version is very comfortable. They are also a nice pale shade of pink. The bottoms are quite different though, it being rubber but it's no biggie. I have to get used to the lace-less thing though. It kind of looks semi-naked, you know? I mean, the whole lace-up thing is what got me hooked on jazz shoes in the first place so not having laces kind of confuses my brain. I might get laces for these pink lovelies but for $24 (I used a coupon), I'm definitely not complaining!

I'm still trying to get over how awesome my 2 semi-free shoes from Forever 21 are when this lovely pair of perforated lace-ups from Nordstrom showed up. I haven't even worn the 2 lovelies that arrived the other day and here comes another one! Am I dreaming? I must be in heaven! It's official. It's raining shoes! (Hallelujah!)

There's a really interesting story about these lovely perforated lace-up shoes actually. I saw them at the Nordstrom website and I wanted them in white. Since I didn't want to pay shipping (Remember, if you're doing some damage to your credit card, try to be as gentle as possible!), I decided to call up the local Nordstrom to ask if they have it available so I can just pick it up.

A few calls and a few minutes later, the lovely Sales Associate informed me that they do not have it in white in any of their stores but they do have it in black. I stared at my monitor for a while, examining the black version. It wasn't really what I wanted but it was cute and I could always use a back-up one just in case the one I already have decides to fall apart (Knock on wood!). I gave it some thought. After all, I was in search of white ones, not black. I asked her if they were also in sale in the store since it was on sale on the website and the lovely Sales Associate said that they weren't BUT they will match the online price for me. SWEET! Not only that, she also said that she will ship it to me for free. AWESOME!

Next thing I know, there I was on the phone, putting an order for another pair of shoes. That seemingly sweet and helpful Sales Associate just got me to buy another pair of shoes! I got tricked! SNEAKY but SMOOTH! REAL SMOOTH! I give major props to that Sales Associate. Major props. *claps hands*

So, anyway, below is the lovely I bought over the phone. (Apparently, there's no place to hide from shopping!) It's amazing how they make you part with your money so easily and without much thought.

Old School Cool Treasure: I've bought three lovely items from your store, but one was a gift so I am going to talk about the two I have the pleasure of wearing myself.

An amazing white vintage sweater with the cutest blue ribbons and pink roses, as soon as I saw it I knew I HAD to buy it! I love the fact that I can wear it on cold rainy days and have my day brightened up, it instantly puts a smile on my face. This is such a versatile piece, I could wear it with denim shorts & tights, over a dress or skirt and with skinny jeans. I would pair it with one of my skull rings to toughen it up a bit and a pair of white patent Doc Marten's or maybe a pair of my studded boots. And of course a bow in my hair!

I love these denim dungarees, I don't wear jeans much and like to find alternatives particularly for college which involves a lot of practical work. The fact that they are shorts makes them super girly and feminine. Again, another versatile piece, it is so easy to make them look good. I would pair them with any colour lace shirt underneath, or a striped top, maybe a button up vintage blouses with peter pan collars and cable knit chunky cardigans. Classic oxford brogues look great with them & loafers for an old school cool. I'm also planning to wear my vintage baseball jacket with them once the weather gets colder!

Two Saturdays ago, Mr. Old School and I went to check out the grand re-opening of Forever 21 at our local mall. As a treat to the first 200 customers in the store, we were given a $20 gift card each. Wow! Free shopping money! As expected, a gazillion teenagers were in attendance. We looked around for a bit and decided to spend our gift cards online. Usually, I wouldn't get out of bed early on weekends but for a chance at getting a gift card AND going to Forever 21? It was worth it!

I ended up using my gift card on a pretty dandy pair of two-toned oxfords. Such a major score since they sold out in a day! Of course, I had to pay the extra and the shipping but it's ok. Mr. Old School generously donated his gift card to my cause and I ended up getting an awesome pair of black wedge booties! Totally spectacular! Absolutely positively slick! Thank you, Mr. Old School!

A week later, look who arrived...

Now, this is happiness in a box! Hurray for semi-free shoes! :D

Mr. Old School has been wanting me to get on this "no shopping" bandwagon for the longest time. I've tried and tried but I keep on falling off the darn thing. Hey! It's not my fault those bandwagons aren't equipped with the latest state of the art seatbelts, let alone walls to prevent you from jumping off easily like a maniac escaping an asylum! (No shopping? Now, THAT's crazy!) I mean, even if you didn't want to fall off, without said walls or seatbelts, a little bump (read: sale) could easily throw you off, right? If they intended people to stay on the darn thing, they should have added those key components, maybe even added bars or something. Needless to say, the last "no shopping" bandwagon I fell off from has left and it has left a long time ago. (I heard that some of the ladies that were on the same bandwagon fell off too, no thanks to these Fourth of July sales. Hmph!) I'm just waiting for the next bandwagon to come and I promise, sincerely promise, to try harder to stay on the darn thing next time! In the mean time, I must control (read: torture) myself.

I had to go out today to send out some packages, making it another day to dress up. Well, I really didn't have to dress up since I was already wearing the white shirt. I just had to scavenge through my closet to find something else to wear with it. After a couple of tugs and pulls, this is the outfit I managed to put together. It was warm but I just had to try on the pink Members Only Jacket I thrifted last week. It was supposed to go to the shop but after trying it on, I decided to keep it. I really should stop doing that. Happy Friday, everyone!

Ever since I was a little girl, I've always been into Sanrio characters. My Grandma would always get me stuff from Hello Kitty to My Melody to Little Twin Stars. To this day, I still have some vintage Hello Kitty items I've had since I was a child. I still have this Hello Kitty insulated Thermos that I still occasionally use. Sanrio is definitely part of my childhood and Sanrio is still part of life now. Cuteness is forever!

Anyways, I was surfing the Internets the other day, looking for vintage Doc Martens when I stumbled upon the coolest thing ever! Hello Kitty Docs! Complete with Hello Kitty Bow! Now, this is what I would call "Old School Kawaii". They won't be available until September though but just look at how cute they are!

Today, 3 different photographers helped me with this outfit post. You can probably tell the difference in their styles but I must say, I'm very lucky to have eager photographers around! They make outfit posts a lot easier and definitely more fun!

We were on our way to our friend's house to help her package up her wedding souvenirs when we spotted this lovely vintage car parked in some empty lot. My friend, Princess, immediately thought that it would make for a good backdrop for my vintagey outfit. It was fun but it started to rain. That cut our shoot shorter than I would have liked. Boo!

It was a good day though! We finished all the souvenirs and we were able to do some catching up which is always nice. I hope everyone had a lovely weekend!

Father's Day

This is my Father's Day outfit. It's a lovely day so I decided to wear something light and breezy. I thrifted this bright orange dress in Los Angeles during my short sabbatical a couple of months ago and haven't really gotten a chance to wear it until today. (Then again, I have so much clothes, I don't think there's enough days in the year to wear all of them. Hehe!) It's not really vintage but I just couldn't resist the lovely embroidered design.

Also, in honor of my father who is back home, I wore his cross necklace. I remember the day he bought this necklace. He saw it at the shop and found the design so beautiful and intricate, he ended up buying it. Like any giving father, he offered to let me borrow it. I "borrowed" it years ago and have yet to return it. I just love that it reminds me of the 2 important people in my life that love me unconditionally, my Dad and Jesus Christ. I really am blessed to have such a wise, caring and loving father! I hope everyone had a lovely Father's Day!

Winter Hues

I am definitely NOT a winter person but if there's one thing I miss about winter, it would be legwear. (Heaven knows I've collected a myriad of tights and socks) It has been too hot lately that I can't even justify wearing ruffled socks with my wedges or over-the-knee socks with my skirts and shorts. I know I should be thankful for the wonderful weather but I can't help but reminisce about the times when my legs were fully "clothed" and I didn't have to worry about shaving. Hehehe!

Old School Cool Treasure: I bought the 'Three Little Pandas' Glittery Sweater. Australians call them 'Jumpers.' I love this piece so much, because it's completely unique! It reminds me of the clothes I used to wear as a kid, but have long since grown out of. Why should kids get all the fun clothes? This jumper looks great with lots of layering. I usually pair it with a denim vest. I like to wear it with a long skirt and sneakers, which reminds me of the way a lot of Tokyo girls dress in Winter. Since the design is so adorable, you can basically throw it over anything, for instant cute.

Sewing and Dress Forms

After neglecting my dandy sewing machine for a long time, I finally decided to take it out today for a little project. I've been watching a lot of sewing tutorials on YouTube yesterday and I've been meaning to start sewing again so the timing was right. Plus, I bought a ton of vintage patterns that I've been wanting to sew so I definitely needed to brush up on my skills.

I'm pretty much a simple sewer. I make tote bags, attach zippers, shorten hems, real easy and simple stuff. I know the basics to make use of my sewing machine. I guess you can say that I'm a beginner.

Today, I dabbled on using bias tape. The vintage patterns that I bought always seem to mention them so I figured I might as well get acquainted with this thing. Wow! They are the most wonderful things ever! If you use pre-made bias tape, they're actually easy to use! (It would be safe to assume that most of my sewing project from here on out will have bias tape) With my newly learned technique, I decided to add some detail to a plain pink dress that I have with some white bias tape. I still have a lot of things I want to add to the dress so I'm not yet done. You can take a peek at what I've done so far with the bias tape below.

Gosh, I've forgotten how fun it is to sew! Unfortunately, it also reminded me of how expensive it can be. I guess it's time to start collecting those Joanns coupons again! Speaking of sewing, guess who arrived in the mail today? Sandy! The lovely dress form that I bought on eBay! You'll be seeing a lot of Sandy in the shop as she will be modeling for me! Yay!
